Manmohan Singh — 14th Prime Minister of India

Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932 in West Punjab which is now in Punjab. His father was Gurumukh Singh and mother is Amrit Kaur. He was married to Gursharan Kaur in 1958. He did his B.A. in Economics from Punjab University, 1954.

After occupying several posts he was appointed as a governor of Reserve Bank of Indian in 1982 and then the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission in 1985. It was 1991 when he was made finance minister in the Rao Government.

He started the economic reforms to save the crumbling economy of India. Since then he remained a member of Rajya Sabha and now after the refusal of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi as the Prime Ministership destiny favoured him.

The effect of Manmohan Singh

Dr. Singh is a man of integrity and intellect. He enjoys the backing of Mrs. Gandhi and totally believed by the nation. His image as a sober and honest person is well known. And because of his honest image sometimes he is called Dr. Honest.

His records on various posts is spotless. He is an idol of simplicity and believes in value system. Given his previous record the country has welcomed him with an open arms. We hope he will do great to the country. He was hand piked by Mrs. Gandhi.

He is the man in the Congress who Mrs. Gandhi believed most. He is a man of low profile. He always escapes fashionable parties and pompous meetings. He is an unexpected choice.
